New Zealand is a cool place!!!
This time, we only have 7 days to stay in New Zealand, it’s too short!
We were thinking to go to North and South Island together, but the time is really too short… so hope I can go to North island next time!!!
There are much more population in North Island, but South Island has more beautiful things to see, such as glacier, high mountains and 峽灣!
In the first stop, Christchurch… though the earthquake has been one year already, there are still so many damaged buildings in the city center.
The city center is still blocked, and it’s really not easy to drive in the city…
We had to “perform a u-turn if possible” all the time.
Broken houses are still everywhere, and it’s a bit scary because of the empty houses, but it’s obvious to see that Christchurch was a beautiful city before.
The houses are very different to the ones in Melbourne… don’t know why… just look different! Haha
There are not much things we can do in CHC, and it was so cold in the evening… don’t want to leave the hostel!
We’ve been to many lakes in NZ, but Lake Tekapo is definitely the best one!
The lake is very different because of its color, and there are so many beautiful snowy mountains surround!
The Turkish color water comes from the glaciers in the mountains.
It’s just beautiful… but it’s also very cold there.
I put a bottle of water in the car overnight, and I thought it almost frozen in the next day = =
Queenstown is a lovely town… full of backpackers.
Queenstown is the original place for the advanture activities such as bungy jumping, sky diving, mountain bicycle…
But I think it’s more for the people who are keen for the exciting things and the people with a lot of money…
The price of sky diving is around $600NZD!!!
So… we went there, had a great cup of coffee in a lovely café, had a nice walk around the lake, and enjoyed the wonderful free wifi in the city, and that’s enough :P
Lake Wanaka is nothing special…
Just found a cool sun screen vending machine, and that’s it!
Franz Josef Glacier!!!
Joining the glacier half day tour was the most exiting schedule for me in NZ.
The tour varies.
2 hour tour can only see the edge of the glacier, 0hr on the ice.
Half day tour can get on the glacier, 1hr on the ice.
So consider of our balance, we decide to go for the half day tour, at least we can touch the ice!
However, when we arrived Franz Josef, they said the tours are all fully booked…
There is only one space in the next day, otherwise we have to wait until the day after…
We don’t have that much time to wait til the day after, so… helicopter!!!!
Helicopter cost more, and it’s only for 20 mins, but we can stand on the snow without any effort ;)
So Tobi bargained the price, and we booked a 20 mins tour for the next morning.
In the next morning, we checked out the hostel, and arrive the meeting point with excitement.
Suddenly, the officer told us, because 4 other people booked a 30 mins tour, so we upgraded to the more expensive one ($100 more) for free!!!!
Yeah!!!
So we stood on the glacier, take hundreds of photos in the helicopter ;) hehehe
Surprisingly, it’s not cold at all up there.
They said it’s about 3 degrees less than the village.
Because it snows more than 7 meters every year, so the ice in the glacier doesn’t melt even with very strong sunshine!!!
I’m waiting for my flight in CHC airport, going to transfer in Kuala Lumpo to Singapore.
Stay in Singapore for one night, and ready to start my Europe trip!!!!!
Now it’s around 10 degrees in CHC outside, but my computer says it’s 38 degree in Singapore?! Really!????
